She stayed there for two years from 1986 to 1988 before moving to work for Charlotte, North Carolina’s WBTV.

Stokes later moved to ABC and partnered with Robb Hanrahan, replacing anchors Nancy Loo along with David Ushery. However, the pairing did not work as well as expected, and Robb was taken off the morning news, replaced by the weekend sports anchor Steve Bartelstein. This new pairing worked well, and the two were responsible for helping popularize the show “Eyewitness News This Morning” as it had fallen off the ratings. The show returned to its top position, and so they later also took over anchoring duties for “Eyewitness News at Noon”.

In 2003, she was removed for a brief time from the noon newscast and was replaced by Sade Baderinwa, however, she returned to the noon newscast after Roz Abrams left the station, leading to a shift in positions once more. The name of the show is a reference to the style of news broadcasting often implemented by local television stations around the world. These types of news often emphasise action video shots as well as other visual elements. It soon became a popular form of news casting, replacing a lot of the man-on-camera newscasts styles of older days.

Moving to Fox 5

In 2007, Lori had become the sole anchor of both “Eyewitness News” from morning to noon – a roster of rotating reporters would join her during this period until Ken Rosato was chosen to become a permanent co-anchor. Three years later, the newscast expanded to start airing early in the morning at 4:30 AM, and in 2014 the noontime news expanded another full hour.
