In 2008, Dillingham enrolled at Texas Tech University (TTU) to pursue a degree in meteorology. The university is the main institution of the four in the university’s system with the seventh largest enrollment in Texas. They offer over 150 courses of study with research projects in the areas of atmospheric sciences, epidemiology, and wind energy as a few of the most prominent. During her time there, she worked on the experiment called Verification of the Origin of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment 2 or VORTEX 2. She served as an important member of the team’s tests throughout 2009 and 2010.

Her team was also responsible for measuring humidity, temperature, and pressure of nearby tornadoes developing across the Great Plains. During her senior year in Texas Tech, she took an internship with Cable News Network (CNN) which led to her gaining a freelance position with the company. CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage, and the first all-news television channel in the US. Recent Endeavors – The Weather Channel

With that job, she mainly worked behind the scenes helping with the production of weather segments and weather-related programs.
