After completing her undergraduate education, she then took steps towards building a career in meteorology.
Texas Tech and Career Beginnings
In 2008, Dillingham enrolled at Texas Tech University (TTU) to pursue a degree in meteorology. The university is the main institution of the four in the university’s system with the seventh largest enrollment in Texas. They offer over 150 courses of study with research projects in the areas of atmospheric sciences, epidemiology, and wind energy as a few of the most prominent. During her time there, she worked on the experiment called Verification of the Origin of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment 2 or VORTEX 2. She served as an important member of the team’s tests throughout 2009 and 2010.
Her team was also responsible for measuring humidity, temperature, and pressure of nearby tornadoes developing across the Great Plains. During her senior year in Texas Tech, she took an internship with Cable News Network (CNN) which led to her gaining a freelance position with the company. CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage, and the first all-news television channel in the US. It’s available in over 100 million US households, and is broadcast in over 212 countries, through CNN International.
Recent Endeavors – The Weather Channel
Sarah’s experience with CNN would help with the development of her career, and while interning with the company, she began working as a meteorologist for KLBK-TV, then began working on her master’s degree and was then offered a job at CNN as a full-time weather producer. With that job, she mainly worked behind the scenes helping with the production of weather segments and weather-related programs. She stayed with CNN for over a year, and due to the nature of her work, she began collaborating frequently with staff at The Weather Channel.
She had attracted a lot of notice thanks to her passion towards the industry, and was eventually invited to meet with one of the supervisors of the network, which led to her leaving CNN to join The Weather Channel (TWC) a subsidiary of Entertainment Studios. Similar to numerous weather personalities, she is highly active online through accounts on social media, mainly posting about her daily thoughts while also promoting some of her recent endeavors. She is very vocal about her Christian faith and often posts about her recent spiritual developments.
