At KUSA, she served as a reporter before she was promoted to the position of a general assignment reporter in 1992. During her time in Denver, she covered stories such as the stand-off in Waco, the visit of the Pope in 1993, and the bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Lynette worked for KUSA from 1988 to 1998, and then moved to become a reporter and anchor for KTLA station in Los Angeles, California – during her first year there she won the Golden Mike Award for the work which she had done in the “Public Schools: Working the System” KTLA News series.

She went on to win her first Emmy Award and a second Golden Mike Award for her reports in the “Access L.A. – The Latino Experience” show – she has also won a local Emmy for reporting and producing the five-part series entitled “From Farm to Fork”.
