Career Beginnings

He formed a production company – Homeboy’s Production and Advertising – with the help of Michael Fechter, a comedian as well. The two started working on several projects together, which included a McDonald’s commercial for the sandwich the “McJordan”, that had Michal Jordan as its star. He was slowly progressing, and in 1987 secured a job as a writer for the NBC comedy series “A Different World”. He continued to hone his writing skills, first with the show “Roc”, and then served as a co-producer of the show “The Sinbad Show”.

MADtv and Rise to Prominence

Orlando gained world fame through the popular comedy sketch show “MADtv”; he was one of the nine original members of the show, despite not having much experience in sketch comedy.  Nevertheless, he proved his talent and helped the show’s popularity, created such characters as Dexter St. Croix, then Reverend LaMont Nixon Fatback, and has also become popular for his impersonations of such celebrities as Michael Jai White, Ice Cube, Temuera Morrison, Warwick Davis, Thomas Mikal Ford, and Danny DeVito, among numerous others.

Following the end of “MADtv” in 1997, Orlando launched his acting career, and has subsequently made appearances in over 60 film and TV series, all of which have contributed to his wealth and popularity. The early 2000s were the best years in his career, with roles in such films as “The Replacements” (2000), “Chain of Fools” (2000), “Bedazzled” (2000), “Drumline” (2002), and “The Time Machine” (2002), among others. In 2013 Orlando played Black Barry in the TV series “Tainted Love”, and the same year was chosen for the role of Frank Irving in the TV horror series “Sleepy Hollow” (2013-2015). 2017 was quite successful for Orlando, as he played Oliver Tambo in the TV miniseries “Madiba”, and was also selected for the part of Mr. Nancy in the TV fantasy mystery-drama series “American Gods” (2017-2019).
