Afterwards she enrolled at the private Ivy League Columbia University, located in New York City; it was established in 1754, making it the oldest institution of higher education in New York, and the fifth oldest institution of higher learning in the country. Scholars and scientists from Columbia are known to have played important roles in various breakthroughs in science – these include the invention of the laser, brain-computer interface, modern genetics, plate tectonics, and the Manhattan Project. It is the second most selective college in the US after Harvard, and ranked the third best university in the country, behind Princeton and Harvard.

Acting Career

Phipps began acting following her high school graduation, and initially moved to Los Angeles for projects. During her time there, she became a part of the 2011 movie remake of “Fright Night”, and had a regular role in the series “The Nine Lives of Chloe King”, however, the series was cancelled after a season. The following year, she was cast as a recurring character in the television show “The Vampire Diaries”, appearing for a total of 10 episodes during its fourth season, playing the character April Young, who is described as an edgy natural beauty.

She then gained a role in the Disney Channel original “Teen Beach Movie”, in which she played the cute biker girl Lela as an impression of Annette Funicello. She performed songs and dances alongside Ross Lynch as well as Maia Mitchell. The movie proved successful, and was the second highest rated cable movie in television history. Following this success, she had a three episode role in the series “Baby Daddy”, playing the love interest of Jean-Luc Bilodeau’s character, followed by a guest role in the series “Supernatural” as Hael.

Later Career and Music Endeavors

In 2015, Grace reprised her role as Lela in the sequel teen musical “Teen Beach 2”, with most original cast members returning for the movie; it became the most watched cable movie of the year. Around the same time, she also starred in the horror film entitled “Dark Summer”, and then worked on the independent horror film “Some Kind of Hate”, having the lead role of troubled cheerleader Kaitlin, which aired during the 2015 Stanley Film Festival. One of her latest projects is the Syfy television series entitled “Z Nation”, in which she portrays Sgt. Lilly.

Aside from her acting, she has also made a bit of impact in terms of her musical endeavors, mostly thanks to the success of the “Teen Beach” movie franchise. The soundtrack of the first film entered the Billboard 200 chart in eighth spot, while many of her singles also stayed on the charts for lengthy periods.  She also had a guest appearance in the show “Austin & Ally”, performing a song alongside Ross Lynch. Her song from “Teen Beach 2” entitled “Gotta Be Me” was nominated for a Teen Choice Award in the category Choice Song from a Movie or TV show, and which she sang alongside many of the movie’s cast members.

Personal Life and Social Media

For her personal life, it is known that Phipps is in a relationship with actor Nat Zang, who is known for being one of her co-stars in the series “Z Nation”. According to her, she spent most of the early part of her life training to become an actress, having attended theatrical productions and workshops from her childhood up to her adolescence.

Similar to numerous actresses, she has a presence online through the form of accounts on social media. She has an account on the website Twitter, on which she has over 120,000 followers – she jokingly refers to herself as a professional pretender referencing her acting career. She does not post on the website often but when she does, it is usually to promote some form of advocacy. She is also highly critical of the current presidential administration under Donald Trump, and also uses the platform to post a few jokes. She is a big fan of films and television, watching a few shows or films during her free time. Her last post was in February 2019, indicating that she may not be online very much due to being busy working on acting projects.
